This page is for anyone delivering education and looking for dyslexia solutions. For example, Pre-5 Education Providers, Primary and Secondary Classroom Teachers, Head Teachers, Further and Higher Education Practitioners, and Home Educators. It provides information about the education in Scotland and Dynamic Dyslexia Services for Educators.
Dyslexia can be confusing for educators; there is no one agreed definition or assessment tool. There is however, a long standing educational approach to dyslexia which is recognized as good practice. Unfortunately, in Scotland, the various levels of qualification in the field of dyslexia are not well known; ignorance and inaccuracy has developed so people without the recognized qualifications are often seen as specialist (sometimes even seeing themselves as specialists). It therefore seems likely that all educators will have at some point been exposed to inaccuracies about the key characteristics of dyslexia and how to make the most useful response.Fortunately, there also seems to be a growing interest in dyslexia and appropriate training. This is probably a reflection of the growing awareness of disability issues in general and as a reflection of new legislation that insists on reasonable adjustments from educators. Dynamic Dyslexia offers educators a wide range of services. These are designed to promote awareness of dyslexia and approriate responses. Damaging labels and stereotypes are highlighted in the context of social and medical model exploration. They enhance educators' abilities to make best practice responses to students who are identified as, or may be identified as, dyslexic.
